What is a Thermosiphon?
Thermosiphons are a form of Extreme Air Cooling that extend air cooling performance beyond what is possible with heat pipe or vapor chamber enhanced thermal solutions for those customers attempting to delay the transition to direct liquid or immersion cooling.
TIM (Thermal Interface Material) – Required to minimize thermal resistance between a heat source and the evaporator.
Evaporator (Base) – Internal structure minimizes boiling resistance with optional copper evaporator for extremely high heat flux devices.
Vapor Tube – Minimize pressure drop between evaporator and condenser to enable lower profile thermosiphons for higher power components.
Condenser – Vapor condenses back to a liquid releasing its transported heat to the air side fins.
Condenser Air Side Fin – Fins add extended surface area to efficiently dissipate heat to the air through forced or natural convection.
Liquid Tube (or Return) – Minimize pressure drop between condenser and evaporator to enable lower profile thermosiphons for higher power components.
Liquid – Dielectric fluid that moves heat using its heat of vaporization is selected based on thermal, structural, and environmental requirements.
Mounting Hardware – Mounting hardware is added to attached to heat generating components.

Types of Thermosiphons
Thermosiphons are a form of Extreme Air Cooling that extend air cooling performance beyond what is possible with heat pipe of vapor chamber enhanced thermal solutions for those customers attempting to delay the transition to direct liquid or immersion cooling while having a favorable orientation with respect to gravity.
Direct Contact Loop Thermosiphon – Transfer high powers over long distances to remote cooling fins for compact, extreme are cooling.
Direct Contact Loop Thermosiphon Example
2D Thermosiphon Fin – More efficient fins increase thermal capacity and reduce weight of die cast or other larger heat sinks.
2D Thermosiphon Fin Example
3D Direct Contact Loop Thermosiphon – Spread heat evenly throughout a given volume to maximize heat dissipation without increasing cooling volume.
3D Direct Contact Loop Thermosiphon Example 1
3D Direct Contact Loop Thermosiphon Example 2 and 3
Air to Air Loop Thermosiphon – High Efficiency enclosure cooling for sealed cabinets.
